Icehawks win another in Fort Wayne

The Icehawks seem to be having no nightmares of Game 7 of the 2008 Turner Cup Finals where the Icehawks lost in triple overtime to the Fort Wayne Komets. So far this year the Icehawks are 3-0 in Fort Wayne's building and they have gave up a combined 2 goals in 3 games. Not bad at all. Sure Fort Wayne is a different team this season than last season but this is a team that went 32-3-3 in their own building.

The Icehawks took care of business once again tonight taking down the Komets 2-1 in front of 5,790.

The last 2 times the Icehawks came to Fort Wayne they had the luxury of using Kevin Desfosses in net who shut them out the first time then gave up just a single goal the 2nd time. So this time around head coach Stan Drulia had to go with Larry Sterling who picked up where Desfosses left off. Sterling stopped 32 of 33 shots in the victory.

Scoring got started in the 2nd period when Jamie Lovell scored on the Icehawks 2nd power play of the night that gave the Hawks the 1-0 lead. That was Lovell's 9th goal of the season and it was assisted by Derek Patrosso and Daniel Tetrault.

The Komets would tie the game up from an unlikely source. Tough guy Brad MacMillan would score his 3rd of the season to tie it up 1-1.

But Jason Chafe who has came up huge a couple times so far this year scored his 10th goal of the season with just 3 minutes left to lead the Icehawks to victory 2-1. Paul Holder and Jamie Carroll had assists on the play.

POINTS OF THE GAME

The Icehawks were 1 for 4 on the power play. Fort Wayne was 0 for 9.

Larry Sterling (15-9-1-0) got the win for the Icehawks stopping 32 of 33 shots. Nick Boucher (10-9-1-1) took the loss stopping 31 of 33 shots.

The newly acquired Chris Bogas did not play in the game and Ian Turner had to leave the game due to an injury. No word on the injury yet.

Jeremy Tucker made his return to the line up tonight getting 0 points and 2 PIM

The Icehawks return to action on Friday to take on the Muskegon LumberJacks. Game time is 7:00PM
