Icehawks lose to Komets in Overtime In a rematch from last Saturday's game against the Fort Wayne Komets which the Icehawks won 4-2, it would be the Komets this time that would come out on top in a low scoring 2-1 overtime win in front of 1,477 fans at McMorran Arena.
Each team had problems throughout the night creating scoring chances. The Icehawks were able to outshoot the Komets 38-25 despite being outshot in the first period 9-8.
It would be the Komets that would strike first at 17:58 when Sean OConnor took a huge slap shot that beat Larry Sterling high and gave the Komets the 1-0 lead.
After a scoreless 2nd period where the Icehawks had to kill off 2 penalties and still out shot the Komets 12-8, the Icehawks would finally get one past Nick Boucher 5 minutes into the 3rd period when Jeff Zehr scored his 14th goal of the season when he tipped in a power play goal to tie the game up 1-1. Zehr's goal was assisted by Ian Turner and Jamie Lovell.
However in a back and forth overtime that looked to be going to a shoot out. Fort Wayne's Guy Dupuis would take a pretty pass from P.C Drouin and slap it past Sterling to give the Komets the final 2-1 score.
