Icehawks take care of Bloomington 3-1 The Icehawks needed to get back on track at home, they came into this game with a 5-6 record at home. This would be the game to do it as the Bloomington PrairieThunder came to town on a snowy Friday night. Coming into the game the Icehawks were undefeated against the last place Thunder this season and it would stay that way after a 3-1 win in front of an announced crowd of 944.
Bloomington's Don Parsons came into the game only 2 goals away from tieing Kevin Kerr's record for the most career goals scored in minor league history. Right away he cut that down to 1 when at 2:21 into the 1st period, Parsons was standing on the doorstep and slammed a power play goal home that gave his Thunder a quick 1-0 lead. But history would not be made at McMorran Arena as the Icehawks were able to scored 3 unanswered goals and keep Parsons and the Thunder off the scoreboard.
The first goal for the Icehawks came at 3:28 when Nick Lindberg (10) (Jeff Zehr, Jamie Carroll) scored to tie the game at 1-1, the Icehawks seemed to grab the momentum from that goal. The Icehawks outshot the Thunder 10-9 in that period.
In the 2nd period, the Icehawks got all they needed to put away the Thunder for good. First, on the powerplay Tab Lardner (12) (Kris Vernarsky, Paul Holder) took a beautiful snap shot that even caught post, that beat Scott Fankhouser high, to give the Icehawks the lead 2-1.
Ian Turner would add another when he scored his 4th of the season which was just a floater from the blue line that found its way past an unhappy Fankhouser. Holder and Zehr both got their 2nd assists on the goal. It gave the Icehawks the final score of 3-1.
