Icehawks continue home struggles The Icehawks are having an issue winning at home this year. Those struggles continued tonight when the Icehawks gave up 3 unanswered goals then couldn't quite mount a comeback, dropping the game 4-2 to the Kalamazoo K-Wings.
The Icehawks however remained in first place with all other IHL teams idle. But concerns are now being raised about a 5-6 record at home this season. On the road though however, the Icehawks have a 9-5 record.
The game started out good for the Icehawks when at 18:58 into the first period, Jason Selleke (4) (Jeff Zehr, Matt Elich) scored on his first game back from a back injury to put the Icehawks up 1-0.
Larry Sterling was strong in the first period stopping all 14 shots he seen including some nice glove saves.
However in the 2nd period, the Wings got some momentum when a bad pass by Icehawk's Paul Holder was picked off by Anthony Battaglia and he scored on the short handed break away to tie the game up 1-1.
Battaglia would strike again at 14:34 when he scored his 2nd of the night with helpers from Casey Handrahan and Justin Cross to give the Wings a 2-1 lead.
In the 3rd period The Wings looked to be running away with it when at 8:05 Tommy Lange took a back handed shot that beat Sterling to give the Wings a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period.
But the Icehawks would not roll over. Tab Lardner (11) (Kris Vernarsky, Ian Turner) would bring the Icehawks within 1 goal. Lardner found a way to get past Jason Tapp and gave the Icehawks hope late in the 3rd period.
But a Interference penalty late in the 3rd period on Holder and a Glenn Detulleo empty net goal would seal the deal for the Wings.
