Port Huron Icehawks Weekly Roundup: Week 9

12-15

The Icehawks had a successful week posting a 2-1 record and finding themselves atop the IHL standings 1 point ahead of 2nd place Fort Wayne. The Icehawks however have played the 2nd most games in the IHL with 24 games played. Fort Wayne has only played 22 and 3rd place Muskegon has only played 20.

The Icehawks got to work early in the week on Tuesday when they welcomed Fort Wayne to McMorran Arena where Fort Wayne seems to enjoy to play. The Komets came into the game with a 2-0 record against the Hawks at McMorran and nothing changed Tuesday as the Komets were able to get a 3-2 victory. Nick Boucher led the way for the Komets stopping 28 of 30 shots he faced. Larry Sterling took the loss for the Icehawks, though at times he was strong. Sterling stopped 27 of 30 shots.

The Icehawks would get a couple days off before heading to Bloomington to take on the struggling PrairieThunder. The Icehawks have owned the Thunder all year with a 3-0 record and this game would be no different as the Hawks improved that record to 4-0 with a 5-2 win. Matt Elich led the way with 2 goals, though his 2nd goal will be changed to Kerry Bowman. Still Elich got his first goal as an icehawk and looked dominating at times going through the Thunder's defense. Larry Sterling got the win between the pipes for the Icehawks stopping 30 of 32 shots.

Saturday it was a showdown in Fort Wayne. With the Komets up 1 point of the Icehawks in the standings it would be the Icehawks who would come out on top and take over first place at the end of the week. The key to victory was the Icehawks power play in which they went 3 for 9. All 3 goals were in the 3rd period. Patrosso was able to score late in the 2nd period to tie the game up 1 goal a piece and give the Icehawks the momentum going into that 3rd period. Kevin Desfosses got the win for the Icehawks, his 2nd win in as many tries in Fort Wayne, stopping 35 of 36 shots.
