   Hawks beat 'Jacks take over first place

The Icehawks are now in first place in the International Hockey League thanks to a high flying offense that was able to out score the Muskegon LumberJacks 6-4 in front of 1,850 fans at LC Walker Arena.

The start of the game got going quickly, both goalies making great saves to keep it scoreless. But at 7:30 into the first period, defenseman Derek Merlini was trying to knock away a pass from Matt Gens and knocked it into his own net that put the LumberJacks up 1-0.

The Icehawks would pick up Merlini and give themselves a commanding lead in the game when they scored 5 straight unanswered goals. First at 7:55 Jamie Carroll (10) scored to get the game tied 1-1. Daniel Tetrault (4) would follow up after that with a goal on the power play to put the hawks up 2-1. Just over a minute later Tab Lardner (9) picked up a rebound off Issac Reichmuth and put the Icehawks up 3-1. Robert Snowball who was playing his first game of the season got the assist on the play.

Nick Lindberg (9) would finish off scoring in the first when he scored with exactly a minute left to give the Icehawks a 4-1 lead going into the locker room. Lindberg had 3 points in the first period.

The Icehawks would continue the onslaught in the 2nd period when Jamie Lovell (5) scored on the powerplay to give the Icehawks a commanding 5-1 lead.

Muskegon would get there offense going though in the 2nd period. First at 9:23 Luke Stauffacher get one past Larry Sterling to get the 'Jacks back into the game 5-2. Then the leagues top scorer and now officially Icehawks killer Todd Robinson scored at 15:04 to get the 'Jacks closer.

Robinson would strike again in the 3rd period at 10:20 to bring the LumberJacks within 1 goal and giving them the momentum going into the home stretch. But the Icehawks would fight through the come back and with Tab Lardner leading him with a great pass Derek Patrosso (3) would score to give the Icehawks the final 6-4 victory to put them into first place.

POINTS OF THE GAME

Port Huron was 2 for 2 on the powerplay and Muskegon was 0 for 4

Larry Sterling got the win (8-6) stopping 18 of 22 shots. Issac Reichmuth (10-4) took the loss for the 'Jacks stopping 22 of 28 shots

Robert Snowball made his return to lineup tonight for the first time this season adding an assist in a Tab Lardner goal.

Jason Selleke was still battling a bad back so he was scratched. Joel Gasper was a healthy scratch to make room for Robert Snowball.
