   Icehawks snap 3 game slide

It wasn't necessarily pretty but the Icehawks got the victory last night over the visiting Flint Generals 5-3 to snap a 3 game losing streak. The win also got the Icehawks a game over .500 and tied them in 2nd place with the Kalamazoo K-Wings.

The Icehawks came out strong in the first period netting the first 2 goals of the game early. First Nick Lindberg (8) took a fluttering slap shot that found its way past goalie Matt Spezza to give the Hawks a quick 1-0 lead. Little over a minute later, Tab Lardner (7) scored on the powerplay that gave the Icehawks a quick 2-0 lead. It was vital for the Hawks to get off to the hot start after a disappointing loss against Fort Wayne the night before. The Icehawks did do just that as they took the 2-0 lead into the intermission and also outshot the Generals 16 to 5.

In the 2nd period Flint showed that even though they are struggling they still have fight in them as they came back and tied it up in the 2nd period. First, Kyle Deck, who leads all rookies in the IHL in scoring, got a pass from Josef Fojtik and made a pretty move on Larry Sterling to pull the Generals within 1. Then at 12:32, Justin Depretis knotted the game up at 2 a piece.

However the Icehawks did outshoot the Generals in that period 13 to 6 but rookie goalie Matt Spezza looked strong for the Generals stopping all 13 shots including a few great saves.

In the 3rd period, Jeff Zehr (6) got himself going again against his former team when he scored a goal at 6:53 to put the Icehawks back on top 3-2. The Generals though once again would not go away. Steve Rymsha had a beautiful shot go right under the cross bar to once again tie the game up 3-3.

Finally though the Icehawks were able to put the Generals away for good when at 10:27 Captain Tab Lardner (8) got his 2nd goal of the night to give the Icehawks the lead. Then to put the Generals away for good, Derek Merlini (2) scored on the power play to give the Icehawks the final 5-3 victory.
