Port Huron falls to Fort Wayne 5-3 You think Fort Wayne's Dominic Osman likes playing in McMorran Arena? Well in 2 games at the barn this year Osman has 6 goals, 3 in each game. He proved to be huge again tonight helping the Komets defeat the Icehawks 5-3 in front of 2,852 fans.
In a well played fast paced hockey game, the Hawks just had to many miscues and were crippled after blowing a 5 on 3 2:00 minute powerplay in the 3rd period. The Icehawks did come out flying in the first period though taking a 2-1 lead early. First, defenseman Jamie Lovell took a slap shot from the blue line that put the Icehawks up quickly 1-0. Osman would continue to wreak havoc on the Icehawks though when he scored on the powerplay to tie the game up 1 goal a piece. The Icehawks would answer back when Jamie Carroll had an awesome goal to give the Icehawks the 2-1 lead going into intermission. Carroll drove down the side with a Komet defenseman on him and was still able to pull off the slap shot which got past Nick Boucher.
The 2nd period did not start off the way the hometown hawks hoped for. The Komets got the first 3 goals of the period and very quickly to. First from Brandon Warner at 1:53, then Osman got his 2nd of the night at 2:38 and David Hukalo got one on the powerplay to give the Komets a 4-2 lead and seemed to have control. But Tab Lardner would give the Hawks a gleam of hope late in the 2nd period when he got his 6th goal of the year to keep the Icehawks within striking distance 4-3.
You could call the 3rd period a period of missed opportunities for the Icehawks and the biggest was the 5 on 3 powerplay the Hawks had for 2:00 minutes. The Hawks had trouble even mustering up a good scoring chance during the powerplay. Head Coach Stan Drulia did take the blame for the failed powerplay.
Osman put the nail in the coffin at 7:54 when he received a beautiful pass from Colin Chaulk on the doorstep and slammed it home on the powerplay and also to complete his 2nd hattrick of the season at McMorran.
The Hawks outshot the Komets 19 to 3 in the period but Boucher stayed strong for Komets to preserve the win 5-3.
