   Hawks win streak snapped at 5

The Port Huron Icehawks came into the game tonight winning their last 5 games. The Kalamazoo K-Wings also came in hot winning their last 2 scoring a combined 12 goals in those 2 games. It was the Wings who came out on top over the Icehawks 5-3 at McMorran Arena. The loss put the Icehawks at a 7-6 record yet they held on to a tie in first place with Fort Wayne and Muskegon who were both idle tonight.

The Wings started scoring early when Glenn Detulleo deked around 2 defenders and faked out goaltender Larry Sterling to put the Wings up early 1-0. Tommy Lange put the Wings up 2-0 when he picked up a puck in the crease and put it in. The Icehawks had a rough 1st period but were able to salvage it when Nick Lindberg backhanded one past Wing's goalie Jason Tapp to pull the Icehawks within one going into the intermission. The Icehawks outshot the Wings 8-6 in the period.

Kalamazoo was able to fend off any confidence that Port Huron got from their late first period goal when they scored 2 goals to start the 2nd period. First Tommy Lange scored his 2nd of the night only a 1:33 into the period then Casey Handrahan to make it a 4-1 game. The Icehawks would not go down without a fight though when late in the 2nd period Jeremy Tucker picked up a loose rebound and put it in to bring the Hawks within 2 goals. The goal was also scored on the powerplay and also Jeff Zehr had an assist which was his 300th point in his professional career.

The Icehawks came out in the 3rd period trying to make a comeback and were able to get close when Nick Lindberg scored his 2nd of the night and made it a 4-3 game giving the Icehawks fans hope the team could salvage a win. But the Wings and Jason Tapp were able to fend off any hope of that and put the game away completely when Lucas Drake got an empty netter to make it a final 5-3.

The Icehawks were 1 for 5 on the man advantage and Kalamazoo was 1 for 4

Larry Sterling (4-5) took the loss for the Hawks stopping 17 of 21 shots. Jason Tapp (5-5) got the victory for Kalamazoo stopping 34 of 37 shots.

Jeff Zehr had 3 assists on the night
