Icehawks get first win in Flint

The Icehawks struggles in Flint finally came to an end last night when they defeated the Flint Generals 4-3 in a shootout. Port Huron came into the game 0-2 at the Perani Arena and 1-3 overall against the Generals.

Port Huron got to work quickly when Jeff Zehr scored his 4th goal of the year to put the Icehawks up 1-0. After a slow start to the season Jeff Zehr has now scored 4 goals in the last 2 weeks. Port Huron dominated most of the first period out shooting the Generals 16-8. But the Generals stayed strong and with less then 2 minutes left, Matt Elich took a pass from Steve Rymsha and tied the game up 1 goal a piece heading to the dressing room.

Tab Lardner, who also started off the season slow but recently caught fire would score early in the 2nd period to put the Icehawks back in the lead 2-1. But at 15:37 in the period after a B.J Adams tripping penalty, Justin Depretis would score to tie the game up 2-2 and got the Generals rolling. Justin Styffe would score 2 minutes later to give the Generals the lead.

In a well played back in forth 3rd period with only 1 penalty call, only one goal was scored and that would be Port Huron's Jason Chafe who tied the game up at 8:25 into the period. Both teams were able to hold on and head to overtime.

In the first overtime of the season for the Icehawks, each team couldn't put a goal in so they had to finish it in a shootout. After the first 3 players from each team were stopped, Jamie Carroll finally put one in to finish the game 4-3. It was the first shootout win for the Icehawks this season.

Kevin Desfosses got the win for the Icehawks (3-1) stopping 29 of 32 shots and stopping all the shots in the shootout. Chad Alban took the loss for the Generals (1-3) stopping 38 of 41 shots.

Both teams went 1 for 6 on the Power Play.

The Icehawks are undefeated when Jeff Zehr or Tab Lardner score in a game.

Attendance was 1,614
