Icehawks make it 4 straight The Icehawks continued their winning streak last night defeating the Bloomington Prairie Thunder 5-1 in Bloomington. The Icehawks are now on a 4 game winning streak and 6-1 in their last 7 games. They are also only 2 points out of first place teams Muskegon and Fort Wayne.
The Icehawks started right away in the first period when Jeff Zehr got his 3rd of the year on a break away to put the Icehawks up quickly 1-0. They added another that period when Jamie Lovell banked one in on a wrap around to put the Icehawks up quickly 2-0 on the Prairie Thunder who came into the game having lost 3 straight.
The Thunder made things interesting in a chippy 2nd period. Leo Thomas scored with a little more than 30 seconds left in the period to bring the Thunder within 1. Bloomington outshot the Icehawks 11-5 in the period.
The 2nd period was chippy as 6 minor penalties were called, including a couple of roughing calls to Port Huron's Kerry Bowman and Jason Selleke.
In the 3rd period it looked as if the Bloomington was going to make the game interesting. The Thunder had a powerplay only 4:34 into the period but after the Icehawks killed it off they would go on to score 3 unanswered goals to put away Bloomington for good. Jamie Carroll would score first on a ping pong shot that found a way past Bloomington goalie Ryan Ludzik, that was Carroll's 7th goal of the season. Tab Lardner would follow up less then a minute later with his 3rd of the season putting the Icehawks ahead 4-1. Kris Vernarsky would put the icing on the cake when he got a Lardner pass in front of the net and put it home to make it the final 5-1.
Larry Sterling got the win in net for the Icehawks stopping 25 of 26 shots and improving back to a .500 record (4-4). 20 year old Ryan Ludzik took the loss for Bloomington (1-2) stopping 24 of 29 shots.
Port Huron was 0-6 with the man advantage and Bloomington was 0-4

The line of Lindberg, Carroll and Zehr went a +3 on the night. B.J Adams also put up a +3 performance.
The skirmish at the end happened after Jeremy Tucker had a break away as time expired, Tucker took the shot wide after and Bloomington's Sam Miller took exception. No real punches were thrown.
The Icehawks return to action tonight when they travel to Flint to take on the Generals. Game time is 7:30. Add a comment
