Desfosses was strong all night especially during the penalty kill but his fellow teammates gave him the back up needed to get the victory by notching 5 goals and controlling play the majority of the game.
It didn't take long for the Icehawks get on the bored when only 40 seconds into the game Kris Vernarsky got one past Kalamazoo's goalie Joel Martin to put the Icehawks quickly ahead 1-0. The Icehawks got a very important goal 9:32 into the period when Jeff Zehr finally broke into the goal column to put the Icehawks up 2-0. It started to look ugly for the K-Wings when Daniel Tetrault put in a powerplay goal with a little less then 30 seconds left in the period that quickly put the Icehawks up 3-0.
In the 2nd period, after killing off a penalty Icehawks added another goal when B.J Adams picked up a rebound and put it in the net to put the Icehawks in a commanding 4-0 lead. Continuing to control the play the Icehawks would notch another goal in the 2nd period when Jeff Zehr got his 2nd of the night that put the Icehawks up 5-0 which was the final score.
Even though no goals were scored in the 3rd, it was an exciting one and the period that really made Kevin Desfosses earn his shut out. The Icehawks were outshot 13 to 7 and had to kill off 2 powerplays.
