   Icehawks take down Kalamazoo

It was a matter of time before Tab Lardner got things going and tonight he finally did that with 2 goals in a 4-1 win against the Kalamazoo K-Wings. Tab Lardner had zero goals on the season after leading the team last year. Lardner finally broke loose tonight scoring 2 goals to lead the Hawks to victory to improve them to 3 wins and 5 losses on the year.

After a first period of no goals the Icehawks finally got a powerplay goal when Jamie Lovell got his 2nd goal of the year to put the Icehawks up 1-0. Lardner would get his first goal of the season shorthanded to put the Icehawks up 2-0. The Icehawks were tremendous on the penalty kill tonight, creating many scoring opportunities shorthanded.

Only a couple minutes later Jamie Carroll would score his 4th of the season to put his team up 3-0. Glenn Detulleo would finally get Kalamazoo on the board though when he scored his 4th of the season that got the K-Wings back into the game 3-1.

Lardner would finish off the Wings though when he scored his 2nd of the night only 1:19 into the 3rd period and that would be enough as the Icehawks win 4-1 for their first road win of the year. The Icehawks have also now won 7 in a row in Kalamazoo dating back to last season.

Kevin Desfosses was strong for the Icehawks after being named the starter before the game due to an injury to Larry Sterling in Morning practice. Desfosses stopped 29 of 30 shots to pick up his first win of the season (1-1) and that is also his first ever professional win. Jason Tapp started in goal for the K-Wings stopping 26 of 30 shots in the loss (2-5)

Former Border Cats goalie and Icehawks goaltending coach Jon Hillebrandt was the emergency back up goalie tonight for the Icehawks in place for Larry Sterling.

Former Icehawks Mark Nebus and Jereme Tendler were shut down by their former team. Neither of them had a point, however Nebus did get a minor penalty and had 4 shots on goal.

Port Huron was 1 for 6 on the power play and Kalamazoo was 0 for 3.

Attendance was 3,699
