Port Huron Icehawks Weekly Roundup: Week 3 The Icehawks only had 2 games this week both coming against the rival Flint Generals. The Hawks and Generals split the home and home series 1 game a piece. First the Icehawks won big 7-3 on Friday at McMorran Arena with a big 2 goal game from Nick Lindberg. Larry Sterling got the win in the game. The Icehawks then traveled to Flint Saturday to take on those same Generals but after scoring 25 seconds into the game the Icehawks could not put another goal past Flint's goalie Chad Alban and they lost the game 3-1. The Icehawks record is now 2-5 with 4 points and are tied in last place with the Kalamazoo K-Wings and 6 points behind first place Fort Wayne.
NO POWER IN PORT HURON
After not scoring a powerplay goal last week the Icehawks once again did not score a goal with the man advantage this week. The Icehawks were 0-7 on the powerplay this week. The Hawks are now in dead last in the power play percentage with only a 10.34%. The Icehawks are also tied for last in Penalty Kill with a 75.68%. However the Icehawks did score 2 shorthanded goals during the week both coming on Friday.
DEFENSE PLAYING OFFENSE
The Icehawks defense had a strong presence in the scoring department this week. The defensive unit scored 4 goals and tallied 4 assists.
RORY RETURNS
The highly anticipated return of Rory Smith finally happened this week. Smith made his presence felt quickly in both games trying to pick fights during warm ups. On Friday Rory Smith tallied 17 minutes including winning a fight against Matt Chromy.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
This week's player of the week goes to Ian Turner. Turner, a defenseman, tallied 2 goals and 1 assist.
REMEMBER TENDLER?
If you don't remember the name Jereme Tendler you are going to learn it quickly. Tendler played 3 games with the Icehawks last year on a try out from college. Tendler just recently signed with the Kalamazoo K-Wings this week and made his presence felt right away scoring 5 goals in 3 games this week including a hattrick on Saturday.
AROUND THE LEAGUE:
Fort Wayne Komets: The Komets finally tasted defeat this week when they lost to the Bloomington Thunder on Saturday 5-4 but the Komets did win Friday to maintain their lead on the IHL.
Bloomington Prairie Thunder: After a loss Friday to the Muskegon Lumberjacks the Thunder got a huge win against the Komets on Saturday that continued their strong, surprising start as they maintained 2nd place in the league.
Flint Generals: After a very disappointing Overtime loss to the Kalamazoo K-Wings on Thursday where they blew a 5-2 lead and losing a blow out 7-3 game in Port Huron on Friday the Generals were able to make something out of the week on Saturday when they beat the Icehawks 3-1. The Generals are in 3rd place.
Muskegon Lumberjacks: Injuries are catching up to the Lumberjacks right now. They have lost goaltender Clayton Pool to a leg injury so Issac Reichmuth had to play Saturday giving up 9 goals in the game to the Kalamazoo Wings. The Lumberjacks went 1-1 on the week.
Kalamazoo K-Wings: The K-Wings got some help from some former Icehawks this week. Jereme Tendler scored 5 goals during the week and Mark Nebus scored 3 including an overtime goal on Thursday. The K-Wings were winless before this week but now have 2 wins to put them tied with the Icehawks in 5th place.
COMING UP:
This week the Icehawks will play a home and home 2 game series with the Kalamazoo K-Wings. First traveling to Kalamazoo on Friday before taking them on Saturday at McMorran Arena. This will be the first time these 2 teams will meet. Add a comment
