Icehawks finally get a win 6-4 It took longer than they wanted but the Icehawks are finally in the win column as they defeated the Muskegon Lumberjacks 6-4 tonight at McMorran Arena.
The Icehawks started out on fire scoring 5 goals in the first period first getting a conversational goal by Jeremy Tucker when he scored in a pile of bodies in front of the net. First the refs said no goal before conversing with the goal judge and changing it to the goal. The Icehawks then got goals from Jason Chafe, Tucker, Jamie Lovell and Ian Turner. Larry Sterling was strong in the first period for the Icehawks stopping 13 shots including a few amazing saves.
Muskegon tried a comeback in the 2nd period though as the Icehawks defense broke down allowing 19 shots in the period and controlling most of the period. They got goals from Billy Collins, Adam Bartholomay and Frank Littlejohn that put Muskegon back into the game. The Icehawks were shut out in the period as Muskegon's goalie Issac Reichmuth was able to settle down and keep Muskegon in the game.
Muskegon continued the comeback early in the 3rd when Darryl McArthur brung the Lumberjacks within 1 with a little over 10 minutes left. But Jason Chafe would not allow the 'Jacks to come completely back when he scored his 2nd goal of the night and the Hawks were able to stop a fury of shots from the Lumberjacks to preserve their first win of the year.
Sterling was strong for the Icehawks in the 1st and 3rd periods getting his first win of the year (1-3) he stopped 37 of 41 shots. Reichmuth was shaky at the start for the 'Jacks but Coach Bruce Ramsay stayed with the young goalie and he was able to settle down stopping 28 of 34 shots but received the loss (2-1)
Icehawks were 0-2 on the power play. Muskegon was 1 for 5
Mike Olynyk returned to McMorran Arena to face his former team for the first time taking a shot on goal and recieving a -1 +/-
